As a genre of entertainment that millions of people worldwide rely on, comedy does not come foreign to India’s talented comedian and actor Vir Das, who is soon to break the Internet by hosting the International Emmy Awards.
Originally planned for 25th November in New York City, Vir wants to use this worldwide event to pitch a new Indian designer by wearing ‘something Indian.’ In a very special way, he has reached out to young fashion designers who he has invited to join him for this event.
Desi by Heart: Invitation To Aspiring Designers:
To provide information on his hosting, Vir went to his Instagram account on Sunday and invited new designers to join. He was very clear that he does not want to work with already popular designers because they already have the attention they need. Rather, he wants to provide youth and emerging talent with an open stage where they can present their work in front of everyone.
“Alright, folks. I’ll be the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards. I am planning on wearing an outfit from India from there. I’m also not going to wear fancy designer. They have all the cash they need and all the clients they can handle. And that’s why let’s start something new, someone new,‘ Vir posted on Instagram.
He said designers, students, or labels who design formal wear only should contact his team and clarified that he wants something either Indian or Indo-Western and not another tuxedo.
Vir Das Outfit Details:
Vir established that this outfit would have to be formal at the highest level because it would be viewed by numerous people worldwide. He humorously noted, “You have to make me look good in formal wear, which is a task, I assure you :-). IT ABSOLUTELY MUST BE INDIAN WEAR OR INDO WESTERN COMBINATION. I do not need a tuxedo.“
Lastly, to encourage participation, Vir pledged that the designer credited with the design would be paid as well. He wanted to ensure that the designer would coordinate with his employees to make the vision as perfect as they expected.
Returning to the International Emmys:
It is not the first time the talented actor has entertained the international Emmys. He was nominated for a Grammy this year and won in comedy for the special Netflix Landing. This year, he will return not as a nominee but as the event’s host. Speaking about his promotion from a nominee to the winner and now a host, Vir said that he could not be happier.
“I did the Emmy last year, and roughly after four months, the team told me I must do this. It is a ludicrous honor to move from nominee to category winner and now be its host. This is not something they were anticipating at all,“ he said in an interview arranged by the Hindustan Times.
Vir also noted that he hasn’t started writing his hosting script, meaning that the fun has yet to start as the event’s date draws near.

Vir Das has been trending in the comedy and entertainment industry for a while now. He was first nominated for an Emmy 2021 for his comedy special Vir Das: India is used on this vessel, which gained in 2023 for Landing.
He’s also created, written, and/or directed several TV series, including Whiskey Cavalier on ABC, Hasmukh on Netflix, and Jestination Unknown on Amazon Prime.
From hosting the upcoming International Emmy Awards to invariably working towards representing Indian talent, Vir Das is changing the world of entertainment.
